This was the 2nd series 4th race. we hit some wind gusts which made it difficult to keep the boat upright.. The underwater hull shape of your boat when it heels affects how much sailing length is put to work, how easy it is to steer, and how much horsepower it can carry aloft as the breeze increases.. Lateral force also induces heeling in a sailboat, which requires resistance by weight of ballast from the crew or the boat itself and by the shape of the boat, especially with a catamaran. as the boat points off the wind, lateral force and the forces required to resist it become less important..
