When a sailboat's mast is too tall to pass under a bridge, you have to hang these big, water-filled sacks from the top of the mast to tilt the boat just enough to slide under the bridge (without capsizing).. Sailboats naturally lean under sail because of the force of the wind, it's very different than hanging weights on top of the mast to force the boat to lean to fit under a bridge, which having sailed all my youth i've never seen. then again, not that many bridges in my country.. Even if you can navigate under the bridge with plenty of clearance, always slow down and do so at idle speed. you can not see if another boater is on the other side, out of view, until the boat suddenly darts out into the bridge channel..
