A kevlar boat begins with a highly polished mold cast from one of our wooden guideboats. this is probably the 5th or the 8th generation of this mold. we can only build 300 or 400 boats from a mold before it begins to degrade and produce less than perfect boats.. In boats it is grossly limited to damage control. if an impact occurs, it keeps the debris together, potentially saving the boat. i always advise it to use mixed 50/50 with glass in the same fabric, as to reduce the risk of delamination.. James moran's book building your kevlar canoe appears to be the only one available about building a canoe from kevlar. the wooden boat school offers a wide range of boat building classes, including courses in wood-strip and wood-and-canvas canoe building..

Boat building requires enough space, under cover, so that the builder can easily move around the hull during construction, or the boat can be built on a trailer so the hull can be moved out of the shelter for construction sessions..
