Re: non-wood materials to rebuild a boat floor ok, lets see the original wood and fiberglass floor in this boat lasted how long? and your rebuild using modern quality materials will last just as long or longer, so the boat will need a rebuild when your great grandchildren inherit it?? my 1960's boat floor lasted from 1960 - 2000 = 40 years... This feature is not available right now. please try again later.. Learn how to measure and cut stringers for repairing a rotten boat hull. see part 2 for more. comments welcome!.
You will invest plenty of time in this repair, do not use inferior materials. for the core of transom, stringers and sole, use either true marine plywood or marine foam. for fiberglass, use directional glass like biaxials and epoxy resin.. The best stringers are not wood.just finished making (experimenting) with several different composite stringers utilizing various technologies, comprised of epoxy, kevlar, carbon fiber, and other materials.. Its done in boats that are not dependent on the stringers for a given or known, proven structural strength. it done for no reason other than to have something to bolt the engine to, and hold up the floor. stringers in a small flat bottom have a totally different requirement..
